Overview

The client is a UK-based company that offers solutions for revenue management. Their software allows companies to apply smart pricing policies, analyze past campaigns, manage and optimize active and upcoming promotions.

Challenge

The client was looking for an extra QA engineer for their product team. As the project grew, the team experienced the need to find one more person who could cover some of the QA activities – in particular, smoke and functional testing.

As the company provides services to clients worldwide and offers a highly personalized approach, users often have different configurations. Each of those configurations has to be tested before every next update goes live.

Besides, the application used some legacy code that makes it run in full functionality only on Internet Explorer. The development team was to get rid of the mentioned code as soon as possible to make the application work in different browsers. Therefore, the QA specialists needed to check how the product worked right after the changes.

Solution

  • A QA specialist joined the client’s development team. The team is working on Agile using the two-week sprints for planning the releases.
  • Every new feature added to the functionality is to be described in documentation – precisely, in a devoted test case.
  • All the new features have to be tested before the team releases them to production, and clients can access those features.
  • All the features and bug fixes are applied to each configuration. The QA specialist runs smoke tests for each configuration before the live release.
  • To make sure all the changes in the new version haven’t broken the existing functionality, regressions are performed.

Results

The client has a highly customizable product constantly enhanced with new features. Naturally, the scope of work for their in-house QA team has been gradually increasing. QA Madness assigned a specialist to work on a part-time basis. He later transferred to full-time and is now working as a part of the client’s team. It enabled the client to extend the test coverage and run meticulous checks during every sprint, just like they planned.
