Virtual Reality: One step closer to your dream

November 4, 2016 Reading time: 2 min

We are bumping into a concept of virtual reality (VR) more and more these days. But I’m pretty sure that not everybody understands what is VR exactly and how it works. Let’s try to figure out this together.

Do you remember in biology class we were told that everything that we know about the world around us comes through our senses? In other words, our brain takes this sensory information and creates our own perception of reality. On another hand, if we will present to our senses made-up information, as a result we will get changed perception, basically new reality. In technical terms answering “what is virtual reality”  we will say that it is a three-dimensional, computer-generated environment which can be explored and interacted with by a person. That person becomes a part of this virtual world and able to manipulate objects or perform a series of actions.

Most probably the first idea what hits you when you hear VR it’s about games. Well, this industry has developed rapidly and it occupies a huge place in people’s everyday life. So developers decide to go much further and create a VR headset, it  fits around your head and eyes and visually separates you from space you’re physically occupying. Images are fed to your eyes from two small lenses. Through VR you can put yourself in a video game without leaving your room, virtually hike the Grand Canyon, experience a movie as if you are part of it. Whenever it is too dangerous or expensive or not practical to do something  in real life virtual reality will be an answer for us.

After analyzing global market we can see that the cost of virtual reality goes down and it becomes more approachable (affordable) and it means that very soon virtual reality will integrate into our life at different levels, such as education, medicine, sport.

You may think that it’s a lot of effort and you will be right! We are on the way of humanizing our technology. Well, we can say that future is already here and we should learn how to use everything that it brings for us. The first step in this going to be discovering virtual reality glasses.
